Love Rules

Carter worked hard for everything he had. He built his business from the ground up using common sense and logic. He believed in things that were tangible, not fanciful notions like love at first sight. At least that was the case until he walked into a new coffee shop one morning and came face to face with the man he knew was his future.

As an artist, Sean was creative to the bones, but even he knew fairy tales weren’t real, and rich businessmen didn’t fall in love with would be artist/baristas. But when Carter insists that Sean give them a chance, he gives in to the handsome man.

As they get to know each other, it becomes obvious they were meant to be. But can two intelligent men who don’t believe in fairy tales forget about the rules and find their happy ever after?

Marriage Rules is Live!

After one incriminating photo outs him to his parents, Stevie loses everything: his family, his home, and his shot at finishing his degree. He’s at a loss what to do until the guy he’s been crushing on makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

Coming off a jilted engagement, Casey is done with relationships, swearing off marriage forever. But when he discovers sweet, sexy Stevie in financial trouble, Casey can’t help but step up and offer to marry him so he can qualify for financial aid and fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher.

They’re determined to keep this marriage a temporary arrangement by setting firm rules and sticking to them. The most import rule of all? Absolutely no falling in love. But the longer these two are together, the closer they get to crossing the line.

Once emotions get involved, who will break the marriage rules first?

Happy National Book Lovers Day

Today is National Book Lovers Day and I thought it would be fun to talk a little about books I love.

  • My all-time favorite book is The Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. I had been a reader all my life but that was the first book that made me want to write one.
  • Eclipse Bay by Jayne Ann Krentz is the first romance novel I read. Until I read that book I was a horrible literary snob who believed I was too good for “those romance novels”. But I read that book, and I was hooked. That was when I knew I didn’t just want to write a book I wanted to write a HEA type romance novel.
  • Lora Leigh’s Breed series is next. That series opened my world up to include shifter books, and I fell in love. That is when I knew that I didn’t just want to write a HEA romance but I wanted to write a paranormal romance novel.
  • And finally Crossroads by Riley Hart. It wasn’t my first MM Romance but yeah you guessed it. It was the book made me realize I didn’t just want to write a paranormal romance novel, but I wanted to write a MM paranormal romance novel. And no Crossroads isn’t paranormal. I loved that book so much I started with just contemporary MM romance, but trust me paranormal is coming.

Tell me… what books do you love?

Marriage Rules- Cover Reveal

I am so excited to share Marriage Rules with you guys. It should be out mid-August. I don’t have a blub to share with you yet but here is a little about the book.

The main characters are Casey and Stevie. If you have read the first two books you have met them both. Casey has the most dating rules of any of the guys and his main one is to never date guys who want to get married. He has no intention of ever going there.

Along comes Stevie. He is an all-around sweetie. He is a yoga instructor who is going to school to be a school teacher until his family cuts him off and he has no way to pay for his school.

Casey steps in and suggests a marriage of convenience to help Stevie pay for school. It shouldn’t matter one way or another since its just a piece of paper and he never plans to get married for real.

But love has other plans for our guys and their marriage of convenience gets awfully inconvenient for Casey if he wants to follow his rules.

We’re in this together Stevie Cat.

Stevie Cat

My cat is a big orange Tom cat named Tonka. He has been my writing partner from the beginning. He knows the rules. When I am writing he can lie beside me, on my legs, or on the foot of the recliner if I have it up. Anything else will get him pushed out of my space.

My daughter’s cat Stevie — and yes that is where Stevie from my books got his name — is a sweet little calico who does NOT know the rules. However, since my daughter graduated this year, things have changed a little. She took a 3-week road trip  I know fun right? — and now she is working as many hours as possible trying to save up some cash for her first semester of college. She also has a new boyfriend so that is taking up her time. So poor little Stevie is feeling neglected and kinda needy. As you can see she has decided my lap — while I am writing — is her new place, and I don’t have the heart to make her move. I keep trying to position her in a way that doesn’t cause me problems, but she isn’t cooperating at all.

When I stop petting her she gets under my hand and pushed until I resume the kitty scritches that make her happy. I am not sure what will happen in August when the girl child actually leaves for college. It’s a shame they won’t let her bring her cat — and yes that thought’s what prompted Scott’s daughter taking her cat to college in my WIP 45 and Holding — but they won’t so poor Stevie is stuck in the boat I am, wondering what on earth I will do when baby girl leaves.

She wants to know who will let her tuck her head under their chin or under their arm, because for some reason that cat loves to hide her head, and I am wondering who’s going to go to Marvel movies with me. She is wondering who will provide a lap to sit in and I am wondering who will go sit in coffee shops with me and laugh at the crazy people who come in in their Pajamas.

At some point, I will have to make her move or I am not going to get anything done. But in the meantime, I will let her sit on my lap, give her scritches, and we will be sad together.

Where do I write?

One thing people always want to know is where I write. Truth is, I am a bit of a homebody. There is a local coffee shop I go to sometimes but most often I write in my living room. I build myself a nest and put everything I need within reach because once I get started writing I don’t like to stop to get coffee or water or a snack or any other such thing.

I both write in a notebook and on a computer so I always have both available and I usually swap back and forth. I like that spot in that corner because I can’t see the Television and I can open the curtains if I want and let in plenty of light. Normally my nest also includes at least one or maybe even two cats but they would not cooperate so I could get a picture with them in it.

There is a little calico named Stevie who likes to sleep up on the back of the couch in the window and a huge yellow cat named Tonka (who is my baby btw) who lies on the raised foot of the couch on my feet if possible. I wish I could show you but if you have cats; you know cats rarely do what you want them to do. So maybe I can share their pictures another time when they are aren’t being quite so catty.

Meet the Pets of Breaking the Rules

I am an animal person so it is probably no surprise that each of my books features a pet of some kind.

In the first two have cats as pets.

Snowball is a white cat that Emma loves in Family Rules. Snowball didn’t play a very big part in the book but I assure you she mattered to Emma.

Sassy was a special cat that came from the Cat Cafe in Work Rules. Alex got Sassy for Nathan as  gift and she quickly becomes an important part of Nathan’s life.

Henry is a French Bull dog who is in the third book Marriage Rules. He is adorable and playful and is a perfect fit for  Casey and Stevie. I can’t wait for you to meet him.

I am not sure what the story will be in book four but you can bet that a pet will be a part of it.

What made me want to write a book?

When I do author takeovers or guest posts on other authors Facebook pages, the question I get asked most often is what made me want to write a book. That is such a hard question for me to answer because I don’t remember a time I didn’t want to write.

I was reading before I went to Kindergarten. I was smart and geeky way before current culture made that cool. I am an extrovert so I always surrounded myself with people but I only had two true friends. My books and my imagination. I read books to pass the time during the day and when I couldn’t fall asleep at night, I told myself stories until I fell asleep. They usually involved love, romance, and a happy ever after.

I had planned to go to college to be a journalist but life happens and I joined the Navy instead. But the idea that I wanted to write never went away. That is why if you see around Facebook and someone asks me that question you will see me say all kinds of crazy stuff because honestly, I don’t know what made me want to write a book. These characters have always lived inside me and one day I finally reached a point where their need to have their stories told over-road my fear.

So that is why at 47 with an established career in a 9-5 office job, where I have a 401K, insurance, and a steady paycheck, I’m dreaming of sitting at home with a cup of coffee and my imagination.

Inspiration Picture for Book Three

Botanical gardens in Austin Texas
Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

If you have read any of my books yet you might have guessed I love nature. I love flowers in the spring, leaves in the fall, roses in the summer, and holly and mistletoe in the winter. I find a lot of inspiration in those things. That is why they are featured on the cover of my books, and why my guys tend to go on trips to experience the beauty around them.

In book three Casey and Stevie will be taking a trip to the rose gardens in Tyler, Texas. I can’t wait to share their story with you. Is should be out in August. Just in time for you to take a trip to your local botanical garden to see the beauty around you!
